How to Get Rid of Dark Spots on Skin – Naturally & Artificially

Hi guys, today, for the first time, I am going over two totally different treatment options and letting you choose the one that best suits your taste or skin type.

  • The natural route
  • The synthetic treatment route

The natural route consists of two product options:
Buttermilk
Lemon Juice

The synthetic routine also consists of product options :
Hydroquinone
Non Hydroquinone

Option 1
Apply buttermilk to your skin to remove the dark spots on your legs. Buttermilk contains a natural ingredient that over a long period of time can bleach and remove the dark spots on your legs. Put about 1/2 cup of buttermilk into a bowl and dip a cotton ball into the bowl. Rub the buttermilk into the dark spots on your legs and let the buttermilk evaporate into your skin.

Option 2
Apply lemon juice to the dark spots on your legs. Just like buttermilk, lemon juice also contains a natural ingredient that can help bleach and remove the dark spots on your legs. Buy a bottle of lemon juice or squeeze the juice from a real lemon into a bowl. Dip a cotton ball into the bowl containing about 1/2 cup of lemon juice. Rub this onto the dark spots on your legs and let the lemon juice evaporate into your skin.

Now to the Synthetic Route
You can use an over-the-counter dark spot correcting cream to treat your dark spots or you can get your dermatologist to write you a prescription for hydroquinone and tretinoin. Another partially synthetic option to consider is Elure. The Elure Advanced Skin Lightening line is a hydroquinone-free treatment for hyperpigmentation that uses a patented natural ingredient to reduce dark spots and signs of sun damage in just 28 days. The Elure Advanced Skin Lightening line is only available through dermatologists, plastic surgeons and licensed medical professionals.

Precautions and Additional Measures
Stay out of direct sunlight. One of the main reasons you never get rid of the dark spots on your legs is due to exposure to the sun. Reduce your exposure to UV rays and If you have to be out in the sun wear long pants to cover up your dark spots and apply a sunscreen that contains an SPF of at least 30.

Talk with your dermatologist about getting a glycolic acid peel for brown spots or discoloration. These medical-strength peels are 20 to 30 percent glycolic acid and are more effective for removing skin discoloration.

When to Expect Results
Since no one has ever conducted any scientific work to test the treatment or improvement duration of natural products like these on the skin, there is no saying when you will see results. Based on my experience, the answer is not very soon.

As for the synthetic option, according to the journal of cosmetic dermatology you can expect to see your first result in 1-3 months and a much significant improvement 6-12 months depending on your skin type.

A Final Word From Dr Mitchell Schwartz
All in all Rx strength hydroquinone is best for lightening spots. Prescription strength 4% hydroquinone is better than any OTC product, including Elure, for lightening dark spots in the skin. These dark spots are typically due to chronic sun damage so daily use of sunscreens is essential in your treatment. Combining prescription-only tretinoin cream with hydroquinone will make it even more effective. Therefore, the most effective way to reverse the effects of chronic sun damage to your skin is by using a combination of these two prescription strength medications: tretinoin cream and 4% hydroquinone. Unlike the unsubstantiated claims made by over-the-counter skin care products, the results of using these creams are backed by real medical science. I recommend the Obagi Nu-Derm System which uses both tretinoin cream and hydroquinone to visibly lighten age spots as well as the fine lines and wrinkles that are due to chronic sun exposure.
